Aquaculture Site Marking Requirements
Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic organisms, including fish, mollusks, crustaceans and aquatic plants. In Canada, aquaculture was first used to enhance natural stocks. However, it is now a large-scale, country-wide commercial industry providing direct and indirect economic benefits to many local and regional economies.The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the process used within Transport Canada in the review and issuance of federal permits in matters pertaining to aquaculture. It has been prepared for use by persons with an interest in the placement of aquaculture sites, within the navigable waters of Canada.
