Scope of the standard

The CGSB-43.126 standard sets out the requirements for remanufacturing, reconditioning and repair of steel and plastic drums used for the transportation of dangerous goods.

Finding the standard in the TDG Regulations

Paragraph 5.12(2)(a) of the TDG Regulations requires that steel drums with a capacity greater than or equal to 150L not be reused to transport dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9 that are liquid unless:

  • the requirements for the reconditioning, remanufacturing and repair in Part II of CGSB-43.126 are complied with
  • the drum reconditioning, remanufacturing and repair facility is registered with Transport Canada in accordance with the requirements of Appendix A of CGSB-43.126.

Paragraph 5.12(2)(b) of the TDG Regulations requires that plastic drums with a capacity greater than or equal to 150L not be reused to transport dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 or 9 that are liquid unless:

  • the requirements for the reconditioning, remanufacturing and repair in Part III of CGSB-43.126 are complied with
  • the drum reconditioning, remanufacturing and repair facility is registered with Transport Canada in accordance with the requirements of Appendix A of CGSB-43.126.
